De Panoven Country Estate
Zevenaar
Recreatieoord De Panoven has the honour of being the first Dutch brick/roof tile museum. It also houses a VVV Tourist Centre branch as well as the regional information centre for the Liemers and Gelderse Poort. Open daily (except Mon) 10am-6pm. Between 1860 and 1983 bricks were baked in De Panoven according to traditional methods. In 1985 the round zigzag kiln and the drying shed behind it became listed buildings. The original brickyard has remained undamaged. Visitors can see the old Aberson baking press in operation (by appointment). Bricks or tiles are made on request, either by hand or by using a small press (fun at any age). These can be taken home on a small board. The main collection focuses on the history of the bricks/roof tiles in De Panoven from 1860 to the present. For further information go to our website.
