Shopping in the Arnhem Nijmegen region

Arnhem and Nijmegen are often described as 'two bustling leafy towns', surfacing in rural surroundings like pearls in an oyster, with the Veluwe on one side, the wooded Rijk van Nijmegen in the south, and the river forelands in between. Read more

Arnhem
The shopping streets in Arnhem are friendly, close together and conveniently arranged, the old and the new easily going hand in hand here. The new, fashionable Musiskwartier (Musis Quarter) has a mall, intimate narrow streets and a lovely square. Het Eiland, the old shopping district, has shops with personality and a rich history. Strolling along the shopping streets you will get a sense of the grandeur of some of the major department stores and clothes shops. This street scene is alternated by surprising, attractive streets lining exclusive shops.

Nijmegen
Attractive pavement cafés, modern shopping centres, cosy little shops and a pleasant atmosphere turn Nijmegen into a nice place to be and shop.
Walk along Lange Hezelstraat, the oldest shopping street in the Netherlands, home to more than 100 shops. Once a Roman street, these days it is still recognisable as a medieval high street leading to Grote Markt (market square). The natural difference in height on Marikenstraat has created a special street where you can go shopping on two levels.

Surrounding areas
In addition to Nijmegen and Arnhem, there are numerous smaller towns where you can go shopping. Zevenaar is set in the heart of De Liemers and has a wide selection of shops and attractive pavement cafés. In the Betuwe you will find a number of lovely country shops where you can feast your eyes. Winkelcentrum Calluna is situated in Dieren in the Veluwezoom. The shopping centre, which provides free parking, had drawn people from Dieren and surrounding towns and villages for more than forty years. Home to small, pleasant towns and villages where you will find plenty of entertainment, De Gelderse Poort and the Land van Maas en Waal are areas where nature is of central importance. Local farmers often sell their cherries, strawberries, apples and pears in stalls along the country roads and numerous country shops sell tasty regional produce.
